Peace Camino Summer Walks – Stage 3: Newry to Omeath
What a wonderful day we shared on Stage 3 of our Peace Camino Summer Walks as we journeyed from Newry to Omeath.
Leaving Newry, we made our way to Victoria Lock for refreshments and a peaceful mindfulness meditation before continuing along the beautiful Carlingford Lough shoreline boardwalk and Carlingford Lough Greenway. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Cooley Mountains on one side and the Mourne Mountains on the other, we enjoyed every step of this spectacular route.
Walking from Newry to Omeath as an intergenerational cross- community group from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland was a powerful reflection of the Peace Camino’s purpose of building peace through a shared journey.
The highlight of the day was the incredibly warm welcome we received from Omeath District Development CLG at The Dolmen Centre. Our heartfelt thanks go to Helen Thompson and her team for joining us on the walk and the wonderful hospitality afterwards. Your kindness and generosity made our arrival in Omeath truly special, and we are sincerely grateful for the warm welcome you gave us.
