Today marked the final stage of our North South Way Peace Camino Summer Walk Series as our Pilgrims for Peace journeyed from Omeath to the beautiful medieval heritage village of Carlingford.

We gathered together at Omeath Pier, where each pilgrim received a Pilgrim’s Pebble to carry with them on the final stage of their journey. The pebble was an invitation to reflect on something they no longer wished to carry in their hearts or something they hoped could be released from their community as we walked together for peace.

Our first stop was St Jude’s Shrine, where we paused for a guided reflection before continuing along the shoreline passing Greer’s Quay, Carlingford Marina and into Carlingford villiage. On arriving in Carlingford our pilgrims were invited to place their Pilgrim’s Pebble on the beach, symbolically releasing whatever they had chosen to let go. We then gathered together in a Pilgrim’s Circle to pause, reflect and leave the Peace Camino with hope and peace in our hearts. Each participant was then presented with their Pilgrim for Peace certificate by Helen Thompson from Omeath District Development CLG, recognising their commitment to walking together as one for peace.

Following the presentation, Ray from Omeath District Development led a wonderful guided heritage tour of Carlingford, after which our pilgrims had time to explore and enjoy this beautiful historic village. To each and every Pilgrim for Peace who joined us over the four stages of this special journey, thank you. Your willingness to walk together, listen, share stories, build friendships and create connections is what the North South Way Peace Camino is all about.

A sincere thank you to Ulster University and Omeath District Development CLG for supporting our Peace Camino journey into Carlingford and for sharing this experience with us.

Finally, a huge thank you to all our REACT staff and volunteers whose hard work, commitment and dedication made this Peace Camino possible.

This may be the end of our first North South Way Peace Camino Summer Walk Series, but it is only the beginning of the journey. We look forward to taking our next steps with you all as we continue to Walk Together as One for Peace.
